Easy Water Care With Your Hot Tub

Tuesday, August 14th, 2018

All hot tubs require some attention and involvement when it comes to water chemistry and having access to clean, healthy water.

Who doesn’t want to have sparkling, clear water whenever you’re ready for a soak?

There are three important things when it comes to your hot tub water: filtration, circulation and balancing. There is also a simple ‘add on’ to your hot tub that can help with water chemistry and balance and that is an Ozone System.

The Ozone System operates continuously to mix highly concentrated ozone with the water as it travels through a contact chamber on its way back to the hot tub water. The organic contaminants are instantly oxidized, helping to keep the water clean and fresh.

There are 3 different types of ozone generators used in hot tubs:

1. Ultraviolet (U.V.)

Minimal Maintenance – This lamp must be replaced by a technician and will require a service call. This generator will need to be replaced every 2 – 3 years

2. Chip-type Corona Discharge

Along with the U.V generator, the Chip-type will also need to be replaced or cleaned every 2 – 3 years as the ozone output diminished. The ozone output from the Chip- type unit is typically around 220- 225 parts per million (ppm)

3. Cell- type Corona Discharge

Cell – type has 2 major advantages over the other generators. This generator requires little maintenance and will end up saving the hot tub owner money in the long run. The Cell-type output is 650- 750 ppm, resulting in greater effectiveness – This means fresh, sparkling clear water with less effort and sanitizer.

Now that you know how Ozone can help sanitize your water for a minimal investment – choose which system you want added to your hot tub and start soaking in sparkling water today!

Changing a Filter

Tuesday, August 14th, 2018

With the proper rinse and rotating you will only need to change your filter monthly.

Either spray with your outside hose or let soak!

A filter will last longer if you clean it monthly, however, the older a filter is and the longer you let it sit means the more dirty it is – which will make your water unclear. If your water becomes unclear and dirty, you should start with changing your filter and putting in the correct amount of chemicals before calling for a service check.

Many people spend money and on service checks before cleaning their filter and checking their chemicals. It is very important to stay up to date on your hot tub and pool maintenance to aviod other issues that may occur later on.

Is a Hot Tub right for you?

Tuesday, August 14th, 2018

Something we often hear from clients is that they are afraid they won’t use their spa enough – and that is why they hesitate to purchase one!

Why would you want to spend so much money and so much time on something that isn’t going to be used.

Is a Hot Tub right for you?

Do you live in a temperature climate? Hot tubs are great between temperatures 0 – 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

They provide good therapy for those who do physical activity and frequently have achy muscles.

Not only are they great for your physical and mental well-being BUT they provide much more for you and your family, such as:

  • Increase home value
  • Provide a staycation – why spend your money on a vacation when you can have a staycation in your own backyard
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Better sleep
  • More family time – traditional family dinners are great but why not extend your family time outside and away from any electronics

Those are just 5 benefits but there are so much more! We understand your worry and your stress – it can be a lot of money, but it is money well spent.

Hot Tub Temperature

Tuesday, August 14th, 2018

Hot tub temperatures range from 80 – 104 degrees, however, most people set their hot tub between 101 – 102 degrees. Soaking in warm water can be very relaxing for adults and good for ones’ well-being.

Setting a hot tub for a family with young kids is different:

For young children, they should not be in water set at 85 degrees for longer than 20 minutes – if your spa is set at 100 degrees or more, children should not be in for longer than 5 minutes at a time. If your child is not big enough to stand up with their feet on the bottom of the tub and their head out of the water, they should not be in the hot tub.

For expecting mothers, the temperature of your hot tub should not exceed 102 degrees.

Swim spa temperature ranges from 59 – 104 degrees, however, if you are working out your temperature should not be higher than 90 degrees. The average temperature for a swim spa to be at is anywhere between 79 – 85 degrees.

Changing Hot Tub Water

Tuesday, August 14th, 2018

A common misconception is that you should drain and change your water in intervals such as every 2-3 weeks, however, we find that most owners go 4 – 5 months before changing their water.

Yes, you should drain your water if you do not plan on using your hot tub anytime soon. Perhaps you have a hot tub at your summer house but do not plan on running your spa for some time (winter months) therefore you should drain your hot tub.

If your water begins to be unclear that’s an indicator that something could be wrong. Usually cloudy water means something is wrong with the lack of maintenance. If you are unable to clear up the water with the right chemical treatment, then you should drain your hot tub.

Remember, clear water is clean water. Before draining your water, bring a sample to our lab and let us test your water so we can help clear it up!

How Much Does it Cost to Run a Caldera Spa

Tuesday, August 14th, 2018

Often the best place to research the cost of electicity to operate a Caldera hot tub is from actual owners or a licensed dealer. A efficient and well- insulated hot tub can save a homeowner thousands of dollars over the life of the hot tub.

Caldera owners brag about their lower electricity bills and here’s why:

An acrylic shell that is reinforced with a three layer duraband system

Eco-tech cabinets that are made of polymer

Pump heat exhaust which captures heat exhaust and channels it out to the equipment compartment

Full fiber cor- insulation which is 4 times greater than the half-pound urethane foam used in most spas – which then maximizes energy efficiency and keeps operating costs lower

Many Caldera owners report that in using their hot tubs an average of once a day, 6 days a week while properly recovering their spa when finished, their electricity bills did not rise more than $25/ month.

A certified Caldera dealer can tell you what your monthy electricity cost will be for a specific spa – Stop in for an estimate and let us help you find the perfect spa for you and your family!

Auto Cover

Tuesday, August 14th, 2018

One of the most commonly asked questions is “Can I use my Auto Cover as my Winter Cover”

The answer is yes, however, there are some precautions you must take in order to prevent any damage to the cover and track.

Over the winter you need to maintain the proper water level, which is halfway up the skimmer. This is very important because as we see snow and ice fall on the cover it puts a lot of stress on the cover and track. Not having the pool level accurate can lead to the cover and possibly the track being pulled in.

Never open the cover with snow and ice on it. This can damage the mechanism and track. With below freezing temps it puts a strain on the cover so it should never be opened in the middle of the winter season. As the temperatures rise, and snow and ice start to thaw, it is very important that you check the water level on the first nice Spring Day.

You can leave your pool cover pump out all winter so it is ready to remove the water in the spring.

An automatic pool cover is a great thing to have! However, during the winter months it is very important to properly maintain and treat your cover. If you would like to avoid all the required maintenance, a Winter Mesh Cover might be a better option. With the mesh cover, the auto cover will be rolled up for the winter, while the mesh cover – covers the entire pool.
